In 2019, First-Light USA was an AFWERX SBIR Phase II awardee for GLIDR, and “An Advanced Illumination System for Military Aviators." The Phase II was awarded under the Open Call for Innovative Defense-Related Dual-Purpose Technologies/Solutions with a Clear Air Force Stakeholder Need. GLIDR was developed in conjunction with Air Force personnel who provided vital input and feedback regarding significant gaps in current lighting platforms for US Air Force flight crews. GLIDR/SLIDR will be available in 2025.
Red-Green Mix for Blood Highlighting
An independent study was published in the Spring 2021 Edition of the Journal of Special Operations Medicine titled “Red-Green Tactical Lighting Is Preferred For Suturing Wounds In A Simulated Night Environment.“ The study was approved by Navy Medical Center Portsmouth IRB. Our Tomahawk MC Red-Green with MOLLE Mount was used during the study in which an overwhelming 83% of the participants preferred red-green mix over red- or green-only when suturing in an environment devoid of light.
